But as Dan Torrance knew and learned when he came to Abra Stone, True Nodes are almost immortal, living from the “steam” that children produce with “light” when they are slowly tortured to death. Dan haunted the residents of the Overlook Hotel, where he spent horrific years of childhood, and has moved for decades desperately to get rid of his father’s legacy of despair, alcoholism and violence. Eventually, he lived in the city of New Hampshire, a supportive AA community, and a workplace nursing home where the remaining “brilliant” power provided the last essential comfort for the deceased. Assisted by the premature cat, he became a “sleeping doctor.” Then Dan meets Abra’s losing stone, and it’s his greatest gift, the most brilliant ever seen, that awakens the demon Dan himself and invites him to fight for Abra.
