What I did the first time around since I too had longer cycles and ovulated late was adjusted my LMP start date so that it made my ovulation day I just counted backwards from the date of ovulation which I knew with certainty and created a new LMP date. Made things so much easier for everyone to be on the same page in terms of my due date and how far along I was. Otherwise you're going to be two weeks behind in measuring all along, likely, and then it will bump your due date by a full two weeks, which is no good. I'd definitely explain to your midwife about charting and knowing you ovulated week four, etc.

Dating a pregnancy by period or ovulation?

I've 'adjusted' my LMP by 14 days to compensate for having ovulated 'late'. I find it amusing that it's actually simpler to do that! Ok, ladies, thanks for your replies! I get it now, and DreamsInDigital- you were bang on.

I understand that you would have to count as if your lmp is 2 weeks before, or an 'adjusted lmp' because of the 'system' we use. Isn't it great I was charting though, because as nighten said, otherwise everything would be wayyy off? I am dealing only with my midwife, and she does look at my charts, so she would go by ovulation date too.

Conception explained

I wasn't charting, and that's why I still don't know when my little one is due I have roughly 42 day cycles but the last time I got pregnant I ovulated early, so who knows! Good on you for charting, I wish I was that organized! You will have a more accurate date when they do an ultrasound. My LMP was the at the beginning of August and puts me due on the 17th. And in terms of tracking your baby's development, you would be 5 weeks now. Your doctor may do it a little different though.

My doctor's policy is to go by the LMP because most people won't know their O date to start with. Hey just to let you know I'm the same, going by my lmp I would be 6 weeks now, but because I know I O'd on day 23 of my cycle I'm only 4 weeks and 4 days, Gyno told me not to go by either but to get a scan in two weeks and that my actual due date will be calculated then by the measurements that they take in the scan! I still think I'll be due 20 may tho! I didn't use ovulation calculators to know when I ovulated.

I used OPK's and I didn't get a positive til my 3rd week! They gave me a may 5th dd based only on thenumbers and sac size. Honestly though, one week doesn't make that much of a difference. As long as things are progressing. Your due date will be closer the the one based on you O date. Yes the O date is the one you want to use.

My Story of Miscalculated Ovulation - The Baby Bump Diaries

I would go with day of ovulating. Dr offices think everyone has a 28 day cycle and perfectly ovulate on day 14 and calculate according to that. I'll explain to the dr the truth but just the front office ladies who initially calculate the edd will get my adjusted date.
