I believe this is because they are trying to encourage more men to join however it works against the women as it can become quire expensive. It seems common knowledge among the men that this is the case. The communication and follow up is extremely poor for the amount of money you pay for membership. Once you make a selection, you only ever hear back if the gentlemen would like to make contact - otherwise its silence.
Theres no confirmation that members were contacted on your behalf - you will just have to believe them.
