I married my husband after dating him for three weeks…and it’s working out.

Unless you are years-old and want to get pregnant yesterday, there is NO compelling reason to get married after 14 months. If your relationship is that strong, whatever you feel today will only get BETTER in one year, two years, three years, and so on. But we were already committed to marrying so it kind of takes the pressure off. And at the same time, we had 15 months before the wedding and if anything crazy came out, the wedding would be called off.

I would make sure that you have fully recovered from the trama of your prior relationship. May even have a few sessions with a counselor to be on the safe side. I would suggest giving it a year before you move in together and at least a year and a half before marriage. You can tell a lot about someone by watching them interact with their friends and by watching them interact with yours. I would also listen to what your friends have to say about him. Well, Fiance and I were talking love three weeks in, we moved in together at two months, and we were engaged in a little under a year and a half.

I was never the kind of person to move with that kind of speed or intensity…but sometimes when you know, you know. Any problems that would arise if you moved in together now without an engagement would still arise even if you were engaged. I think 1 month is just too soon. When we started talking about marriage, I decided to change this to living together for a year.

And he proposed on our first trip together after that. Take at least 1 week-long vacation or even starvation first to spend some time together at all hours, long enough to get a little sick of eachother. And wait at least 6 months to get engaged, move in before you set a date but of course you can pick a general time ex. Summer , experience that for a few months, and THEN set a date.

Enjoy the wonderful rush of infatuation for a while! They divorced again when I was Whatever the hell I wanted, really. Planning gives me so much anxiety. Since we knew that we wanted to get married, the next question was… When?
