In fact, Linda and I believe so strongly in the power of introductions, we created an antidatingapp called M8 where your friends are part of the magic. At M8 , we believe that endorsements and introductions from real-life friends provide an important human dimension to our platform. They already know your character and quirks; this makes their recommendations more tailored and effective than what any generic dating app can offer. You can download our IOS app here.

NextShark is a leading source covering Asian American News and Asian News including business, culture, entertainment, politics, tech and lifestyle. What was growing up mixed-race like for you? I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, and it just happened that in that area there were not many non-white people. I knew that growing up, and I felt slightly different. Kids are kids, and I was picked on for being fat or for being slightly different-looking. Does that mean you have all these machine guns in your garage? Especially on a network like ABC, traditionally, it was probably a little bit less diverse.

I was so inspired.

Happy Partners

I grew up in a predominantly white neighborhood, and I would always play the comparison game. I would feel inferior or not as popular or not as cool as some of the other guys who were white or really good looking, in my mind. I think that was one of the things I really appreciated about being on Paradise. It felt like race never came up as a thing, as a disadvantage. Where are you from?

Where do your parents live? I give a lot of props to ABC and the producers and the other cast members, too, for being so open and inviting and generous with their time to honestly give everybody a fair, equal shot, me included. I probably came into Paradise with some internal biases. And they let me choose my own destiny on the show. I felt like the whole time they were supportive and they had my back.

I wish dating were like that outside of the show. No one ever really cared, for that matter. But it felt like a big, happy family, honestly. The world of dating and relationships can be tough to navigate. For all of you Asian Canadians out there, this goes for you, too. Hands down, family is always an incredibly important factor for Asians, whether they have just immigrated to the US or Canada, or were born and raised there.

Are they still quite traditional or have they adopted a more western lifestyle and perspective?

The children honor the parent with an extravagant feast and a big party. Expect the same or perhaps something even grander! While marriage may not be part of the conversation when you first start dating, keep these things in mind as the relationship progresses. For many Asian cultures, the family is often involved in making decisions, big or small.
